Flip a House Gear Progression: Vacuum & Scrubber Unlock Order
Track Flip a House gear milestones by cleaner level. See the six vacuum and scrubber tiers gated at levels 3, 6, 9, 13, 17 and 22, and which line to buy first.
Quick answer
Flip a House runs two parallel cleaning tool lines six tiers deep. Vacuums handle floor dirt, scrubbers handle walls, tiles, counters and stained hard surfaces, and each tier of one line unlocks at the same cleaner level as the matching tier of the other. Both lines are gated purely by cleaner level, with gates at 3, 6, 9, 13, 17 and 22. Cash, property tier and playtime do not change what you can equip: below the gate, a tool is unavailable at any price except a Robux unlock pass. Because the vacuum covers floors and the scrubber covers everything vertical or hard, upgrade order is not the same as tier order.

Comparison
| Tier | Vacuum + Scrubber | Unlock Gate | Clear Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | Pro Vacuum + Smile Scrubber | Cleaner level 3 | The first real upgrade pair |
| C | Turbo Vacuum + Scrub Sponge | Cleaner level 6 | Better than starter, still slow on walls |
| C | Plasma Vacuum + Electric Scrubber | Cleaner level 9 | Usually the first worthwhile purchase |
| B | Industrial Vacuum + Crystall Scrubber | Cleaner level 13 | First pair that feels genuinely quick |
| A | Royal Vacuum + Industrial Scrubber | Cleaner level 17 | Comfortable multi-floor cleaning |
| S | Cyber Vacuum + Handheld Scrubber | Cleaner level 22 | Fastest clear speed in the game |
Which tool line to advance first at each gate
Upgrade the vacuum first at every gate until your properties start being wall-heavy. Floors make up most of the cleanable area in the early houses, and the vacuum clears them in long, fast passes, so the time saved per level is largest there. Once you are running multi-room or open-plan properties, wall runs dominate clear time and the scrubber becomes the better next purchase even though both tools unlock at the same cleaner level. If you can only afford one tool at a gate, buy the vacuum and keep the old scrubber. The trap is buying both tools at every gate, which leaves you with no cash to move up a property tier and therefore no reason to own either upgrade.
That buy-order rule is not unanimous. Some guides call the Electric Scrubber at level 9 the single best cleaning investment because it halves stain time. Both positions can hold at different property sizes, so treat the vacuum-first rule as the default and switch to the scrubber once wall and stain work is what is eating your clear time.
Skipping a tier, banking cash, and the level 22 exception
Nothing in the game lets you jump a tier without the level gate, but you can skip buying one. The sensible version is to keep your current tool through a gate you are about to outgrow, bank the cash and buy two tiers up once you qualify. That works best in the middle of the ladder, where gates come quickly and each tier is a modest step. It works badly at the top, where the level gap between 17 and 22 is long enough that playing with a Royal Vacuum the whole way costs more time than the skipped purchase saves. Early unlock passes only waive a requirement, and free players reach the same unlock through normal leveling, so they save time rather than gate content.
Why the gates exist and how fast they arrive
The tier ladder is one of the most legible progression systems in the game. Because each gate is a fixed level and each tier is a clean step in clear speed, you can plan purchases several gates ahead and know exactly what your money is buying. The main frustration is the wall gate at the start: until cleaner level 3 you cannot buy any tool that touches a wall, and the starter kit leaves large parts of the first properties permanently dirty, which caps the quality rating you can reach. After that the curve is smooth. The low gates fall quickly through ordinary repeat flips, while the level 22 pair sits behind the longest stretch of play in the game and is the one place a paid skip is defensible.
Checking your cleaner level before shopping
Every tool tier is gated purely by level, so cash in hand does nothing if you have not reached the gate. Players who save up for a specific tool and then find it still locked often spend the money on furniture or an unlock pass out of frustration. Look at the next gate, work out how many flips it needs, and plan the purchase for the moment the level lands rather than the moment your balance looks big. The level display sits in the main menu and updates after every house sale, and because XP is awarded at the end of a flip rather than continuously, you may not see progress until you complete a property.
What to check in-game
The level-gate list is community-collected rather than developer-published, and gear tier gates have moved during the game's first months of release. One common ladder ends at level 17 with a Royal Vacuum and no level 22 tier; the six-tier version ending at 22 appears more widely and is the one shown above. Exact cash prices per tool and published clear-speed numbers are not part of this ladder, so confirm current store values and unlock levels in-game before committing to a purchase.
